Redd Kross – Researching the Blues (2012)

For a band that dubbed themselves Redd Kross after the masturbation scene in The Exorcist and has been writing, recording, and touring for over 30 years these guys are obviously doing something right, too bad no one’s ever paid much attention.

This is strictly pop-rock that took an acid trip and punched their dad in the face while screaming “All I wanted was a fucking pepsi!” With a sound similar to The Exploding Hearts and influences of Black Flag and The Beach Boys one can definitely hear the california beaches and a seedy punk rock past in their sound.

The new record Researching The Blues (2012) is their first record in 15 years and is overwhelmingly different than previous albums like Neurotica or Phaseshifter but still maintains their own unique tonality. Redd Kross has successfully managed to represent their east coast roots through their pop/punk/psychedelic sound. They’ll be coming through Memphis soon, take some drugs come watch this band and imagine skateboarding down venice beach. -Travis Cantrell
